Water Baptism

Jesus spoke about water Baptism as an automatic second step after salvation.
Mark 16:15,16 "And He said unto them, Go into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believes and is baptised will be saved, but he who is not will be condemned. In the early church, new Christians were baptised after salvation.
Acts 10 tells of how Peter preaching to a man called Cornelius and his household, immediately following their salvation Peter commanded them to be baptised. Acts10:48

Why do we totally immerse in water?

Baptism is a word that means to plunge or submerge. The following verses will show some examples of this next step.
1. Acts 8:38 Phillip and the Enuch went down into the water (literally)
2. John 3:23 John the Baptist looked for a body of water or "much water.”
3. Romans 6:4,5
The Apostle Paul refers to baptism as a form of burial to the nature then being raised with Christ into a new likeness with Him and a newness of life.

 When should I be baptised?

As soon as possible read the following verses from your bible:
Acts 2:41 "it was the same day”
Acts 8:12,37,38 "when they believed”
Acts 16:33
"the same hour”
As soon as you receive Jesus your saviour you should be baptised.

What happens in water baptism?

Read the following verses
Romans 6:3 At baptism we are identifying with Jesus’ death and rising from the dead.
Romans 6:4 we have been given a newness of life (dead to our nature)
Galations 3:27 At baptism we put on Christ, we have a new covering and a new life.

I was baptised as a baby, is this the same?

Infant baptism or christening is not mentioned in Scripture however, the word of God tells us how parents brought their children to Jesus to be blessed (Mark 10:16). As a baby Jesus was dedicated in the temple. Infant baptism is a decision made by their parents. Bible baptism is a decision made by the believer with their free will and who has decided to follow the teachings of Jesus.

What do I do next?

You can expect that each of God’s promises to you, regarding water baptism, will be fulfilled as you obey Him. Perhaps you have an area or habit in your life that you would like God to particularly release you from. Begin now to believe God. In your water baptism you are making a stronger commitment of your decision to walk God’s way. Prepare now by beginning to believe the promises of God for yourself.
